In July 2021, the euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 7.6%, down from 7.8% in June 2021 and from 8.4% in July 2020. The EU unemployment rate was 6.9% in July 2021, down from 7.1% in June 2021 and from 7.6% in July 2020.
Eurostat estimates that 14.613 million men and women in the EU, of whom 12.334 million in the euro area, were unemployed in July 2021. Compared with June 2021, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 430 000 in the EU and by 350 000 in the euro area. Compared with July 2020, unemployment decreased by 1.521 million in the EU and by 1.336 million in the euro area.
