Τον Μάιο του 2021, ο ετήσιος ρυθμός πληθωρισμού στην Ευρωζώνη ήταν 2,0%, από 1,6% τον Απρίλιο, ενώ ο ετήσιος πληθωρισμός της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΕΕ) ήταν 2,3% τον Μάιο του 2021 από 2,0% τον Απρίλιο.

Από τις αρχές του 2020, ο πληθωρισμός στην ΕΕ και στην Ευρωζώνη έχει αναπτυχθεί πολύ διαφορετικά για τις διάφορες ομάδες αγαθών και υπηρεσιών, με ορισμένες ομάδες αγαθών και υπηρεσιών να επηρεάζονται περισσότερο από άλλες από την πανδημία COVID-19.

Μεταξύ Ιανουαρίου 2020 και Μαΐου 2021, οι μεγαλύτερες διακυμάνσεις τιμών στην ΕΕ καταγράφηκαν για τις κατηγορίες «μεταφορές» και «είδη ένδυσης και υπόδησης». Δύο άλλες κατηγορίες στην ΕΕ παρουσίασαν σημαντικές διακυμάνσεις κατά την ίδια περίοδο: «τρόφιμα και μη αλκοολούχα ποτά» και «στέγαση, νερό, ηλεκτρικό ρεύμα, φυσικό αέριο και άλλα καύσιμα».
