Το 2022 υπήρχαν σχεδόν 7,3 εκατομμύρια γυναίκες επιστήμονες και μηχανικοί στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (ΕΕ), 310.500 περισσότερες από το 2021, αντιπροσωπεύοντας το 41% της συνολικής απασχόλησης στην επιστήμη και τη μηχανική.

Οι γυναίκες που εργάζονταν ως επιστήμονες και μηχανικοί απασχολούνταν κυρίως στον τομέα των υπηρεσιών, αποτελώντας το 46% των επιστημόνων και μηχανικών αυτού του κλάδου, ενώ στη μεταποίηση μόνο το 22% όσων απασχολούνταν ως επιστήμονες και μηχανικοί ήταν γυναίκες.

Μεταξύ των κρατών μελών της ΕΕ, το ποσοστό των γυναικών επιστημόνων και μηχανικών διέφερε πολύ το 2022, κυμαινόμενο από 53% στη Δανία, τη Λιθουανία (52%) και τη Βουλγαρία (51%) έως 31% στην Ουγγαρία, τη Φινλανδία (32%) και τη Γερμανία (34%).
