Το ποσοστό των γεννήσεων εκτός γάμου στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (ΕΕ) ανήλθε στο 42% το 2018, 17 ποσοστιαίες μονάδες πάνω σε σχέση με το 2000.
Το 2018, οι εκτός γάμου γεννήσεις ξεπέρασαν τις γεννήσεις εντός γάμου σε οκτώ κράτη μέλη της ΕΕ: ​​Γαλλία (60%), Βουλγαρία (59%), Σλοβενία ​​(58%), Πορτογαλία (56%), Σουηδία (55%), Δανία και Εσθονία (και οι δύο 54%), καθώς και τις Κάτω Χώρες(52%).
Η Ελλάδα και η Κροατία ήταν στο άλλο άκρο του φάσματος, μαζί με τη Λιθουανία και την Πολωνία, καθώς πάνω από το 70% των γεννήσεων σε καθένα από αυτά τα κράτη μέλη της ΕΕ πραγματοποιήθηκε εντός γάμου.
