Η έκταση που χρησιμοποιείται για βιολογική γεωργική παραγωγή στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (ΕΕ) συνεχίζει να αυξάνεται. Κάλυψε 14,7 εκατομμύρια εκτάρια το 2020, έναντι 9,5 εκατομμυρίων εκταρίων το 2012, ποσό που (αύξηση κατά 56%). Το 2020, η συνολική έκταση βιολογικής παραγωγής στην ΕΕ αντιστοιχούσε στο 9,1% της συνολικής χρησιμοποιούμενης γεωργικής έκτασης (ΧΓΕ).

Μεταξύ 2012 και 2020, το μερίδιο της γεωργικής έκτασης που χρησιμοποιείται για τη βιολογική γεωργία αυξήθηκε σε όλα τα κράτη μέλη της ΕΕ εκτός από την Πολωνία.

Το 2020, τα υψηλότερα ποσοστά εκτάσεων βιολογικής γεωργίας στη συνολική ΧΓΕ ήταν στην Αυστρία (25%), την Εσθονία (22%) και τη Σουηδία (20%).  Αντίθετα, το ποσοστό της βιολογικής γεωργίας ήταν κάτω του 5% σε οκτώ κράτη μέλη της ΕΕ, με τα χαμηλότερα ποσοστά στην Ιρλανδία και τη Μάλτα.
