Το 2020, μεταξύ των 26 κρατών μελών της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΕΕ) για τα οποία υπάρχουν διαθέσιμα στοιχεία, υπήρξαν 168.000 περισσότεροι θάνατοι κατά τις εβδομάδες 10-26 (Μάρτιος - Ιούνιος) από τον μέσο αριθμό θανάτων κατά την ίδια περίοδο κατά τα έτη 2016 έως 2019. Αυτά tα δεδομένα περιλαμβάνουν όλους τους θανάτους, ανεξάρτητα από τις αιτίες τους, αλλά μπορεί να είναι χρήσιμα για την αξιολόγηση των άμεσων και έμμεσων επιπτώσεων της πανδημίας COVID-19 στον ευρωπαϊκό πληθυσμό.
