Μετά τη μείωση του πληθυσμού το 2020 και το 2021 λόγω των επιπτώσεων της πανδημίας COVID-19, ο πληθυσμός της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΕΕ) αυξήθηκε το 2022, από 446,7 εκατομμύρια την 1η Ιανουαρίου 2022 σε 448,4 άτομα την 1η Ιανουαρίου 2023.

Η παρατηρούμενη αύξηση του πληθυσμού μπορεί να αποδοθεί σε μεγάλο βαθμό στις αυξημένες μεταναστευτικές μετακινήσεις μετά την COVID-19 και στη μαζική εισροή εκτοπισθέντων από την Ουκρανία που έλαβαν καθεστώς προσωρινής προστασίας στις χώρες της ΕΕ, ως συνέπεια της ρωσικής εισβολής τον Φεβρουάριο του 2022.
