Την 1η Ιανουαρίου 2021 οι νέοι (ηλικίας 15-29 ετών) αποτελούσαν περίπου το 16,3% του συνολικού πληθυσμού της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης (ΕΕ).

Κοιτάζοντας το μέλλον και με βάση τις πληθυσμιακές προβλέψεις της Eurostat «EUROPOP2019», οι νέοι θα αποτελούν το 14,9% του πληθυσμού της ΕΕ έως το 2050, ποσοστό 1,4 ποσοστιαίες μονάδες χαμηλότερο από το ποσοστό της 1ης Ιανουαρίου 2021, δείχνοντας κάποια σημάδια προοδευτικής γήρανσης του πληθυσμού της ΕΕ.
