Το 2021 το ποσοστό των γυναικών στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (25-54 ετών) εκτός του εργατικού δυναμικού που δεν αναζητούσαν απασχόληση ήταν πολύ υψηλότερο από αυτό των ανδρών (18,5 % έναντι 8,2 %).

Σημαντικές διαφορές παρατηρούνται στους λόγους για τους οποίους άνδρες και γυναίκες εκτός εργατικού δυναμικού ηλικίας 25-54 ετών δεν αναζητούν εργασία. Το ποσοστό των γυναικών εκτός εργατικού δυναμικού που δεν αναζήτησαν εργασία λόγω ευθυνών φροντίδας (5,7 %) και άλλων οικογενειακών λόγων (2,9 %) ήταν σημαντικά υψηλότερο από εκείνα των ανδρών.

Σε εθνικό επίπεδο, οι γυναίκες εκτός εργατικού δυναμικού ηλικίας 25-54 ετών που δεν αναζήτησαν εργασία λόγω ευθυνών φροντίδας υπερέβησαν το 5% στις μισές χώρες της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Το υψηλότερο ποσοστό καταγράφηκε στην Τσεχία (12,8%), ακολουθούμενη από τη Ρουμανία (11,0%) και την Ιρλανδία (8,2%). Τα χαμηλότερα ποσοστά καταγράφηκαν στη Δανία (0,9%), τη Σουηδία (1,5%) και τη Σλοβενία (1,8%).
