Το 2022, το 75% (193,5 εκατομμύρια) των ατόμων ηλικίας 20-64 ετών στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (ΕΕ) απασχολούνταν, το υψηλότερο ποσοστό που καταγράφηκε από το 2009. Το ποσοστό απασχόλησης μειώθηκε στο 72% το 2020 λόγω της πανδημίας COVID- 19, αλλά ανέκαμψε στο 73% το 2021 και αυξήθηκε περαιτέρω κατά 2 ποσοστιαίες μονάδες το 2022.

Μεταξύ των χωρών της ΕΕ, 11 είχαν ποσοστά απασχόλησης άνω του 78% (ένας από τους τρεις στόχους που τέθηκαν στο σχέδιο δράσης 2030 του Ευρωπαϊκού Πυλώνα Κοινωνικών Δικαιωμάτων), με τις Κάτω Χώρες (83%), τη Σουηδία και την Εσθονία (και οι δύο 82%) να έχουν τα υψηλότερα ποσοστά. Τα χαμηλότερα ποσοστά καταγράφηκαν στην Ιταλία (65%), στην Ελλάδα (66%) και στη Ρουμανία (69%).
